Researchers at the fifth annual international conference of King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language called for a stronger Arabic presence in AI and digital knowledge production during its second day on October 5, 2026.

Abdullah Brimi of Morocco’s Moulay Ismail University proposed better-quality Arabic datasets and language models that reflect the language’s cultural characteristics, linking digital creativity and identity with the knowledge economy.

A separate paper by researchers from Yarmouk, Hashemite and Kent State universities proposed integrating language planning, cultural policy and technical infrastructure to address weak Arabic representation in datasets and models and dependence on external technology.

The proposals were presented in a scientific session of the Riyadh conference on Arabic language and culture.
