As part of Jeddah Book Fair 2024, organized by the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission, a seminar titled "Technical Pioneering in Cinema: The First Animation" featured Saudi filmmaker Abdullah Al-Muhaisen, who discussed the development of the animation industry in the Kingdom and the technical and artistic challenges it has faced, while looking ahead to the industry's future locally and globally.

The Rise of Saudi Animation and Its Technical Challenges

Al-Muhaisen traced the stages through which animation in Saudi Arabia has developed, pointing to the qualitative leap the Kingdom has seen in film and the arts. He explained that the industry faces significant technical and artistic challenges, but thanks to Saudi capabilities and the strong determination of Saudi youth, these challenges have become promising opportunities to build a bright future for the industry.

A Cultural and Artistic Renaissance in the Kingdom

Al-Muhaisen expressed pride in the artistic renaissance the Kingdom is witnessing today, describing it as a qualitative shift made possible by the exceptional opportunities Vision 2030 has opened up in the arts and literature, including sending Saudi talents abroad on scholarships to develop their skills, providing exhibition platforms and support programs for young creatives, and encouraging filmmakers to produce new, innovative work that reflects Saudi heritage and identity.

He said the responsibility now lies with ambitious Saudi youth, who carry the task of developing cinema and animation and raising the Kingdom's profile on the world's artistic stage.

The seminar drew strong engagement from attendees, who showed keen interest in the growth of Saudi Arabia's animation industry. The session is one of a series held at Jeddah Book Fair to spotlight cultural and artistic innovation in the Kingdom and support young Saudi talent across various fields.
