In a step reflecting the growing presence of Saudi women in technical and industrial sectors, the Women in Mining (WIM) society held a strategic panel discussion today as part of the GEOMIN 2025 conference and exhibition, organized by the Saudi Geological Survey in cooperation with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. The inaugural edition of GEOMIN is considered one of the leading specialized events in mineral exploration and modern geological technology.
The session marked WIM's first official appearance as a specialized entity, and was described as an important milestone in the journey of empowering women in the mining sector, given the scientific discussions and strategic recommendations it produced on the future of the mining industry in Saudi Arabia and worldwide.
The panel highlighted women's pioneering role in driving innovation, technology and sustainability in the sector, stressing the importance of integrating geological, geophysical and geochemical datasets and linking them with artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve the accuracy of predictions in mineral exploration.
Participants also discussed avenues for cooperation between geological survey bodies, scientific research centers and technology developers, as well as the importance of training and qualifying young talent in critical thinking for mining operations, and ensuring the quality of data used in AI applications.
WIM said the session's recommendations would help build a smarter, more sustainable future for the mining sector by adopting policies that boost technical efficiency and support women's participation in leadership, research and innovation roles, in line with Saudi Vision 2030, which has made women's empowerment a core pillar of national development.
WIM's participation in GEOMIN 2025 underscores its commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in the sector, and to creating an environment that stimulates creativity and opens the door for women's talent to take part in one of the most vital and sustainable industries in the national economy.
