The General Authority of Awqaf is a Saudi government authority established by Cabinet decision in 2016 and headquartered in Riyadh. It is the regulatory and supervisory reference for the endowments (awqaf) sector in the Kingdom, supporting its developmental and social impact and enabling the non-profit sector.
The authority plays a central role in endowment governance and in developing innovative endowment investment products that contribute to the financial sustainability of community projects, supporting a higher contribution of the non-profit sector to GDP in line with Saudi Vision 2030 targets.
Key milestones and strategic tasks:
- Initiatives and sustainable development: launching a package of endowment models in education, health and scientific research, along with managing, rehabilitating and developing public endowments.
- Conferences and knowledge platforms: organizing and managing specialized gatherings, led by the International Awqaf Conference, which brings together leading scholars, experts and decision-makers from the Islamic world.
- Partnerships and enablement: building strategic partnerships with the public and private sectors to direct endowment procurement and spending toward the projects with the greatest impact and need in the community.
