The Heritage Commission is a Saudi government body operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, founded to preserve the historical heritage and cultural diversity the Kingdom is rich in. The commission documents and safeguards heritage in its various forms, including built heritage and tangible and intangible heritage, and works to raise the community's cultural awareness of it.
The Heritage Commission was founded under the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which aims to bring about a qualitative shift across sectors including culture, by showcasing Saudi heritage and presenting it on the global stage. The commission also seeks to strengthen cooperation with international organizations concerned with cultural heritage, such as UNESCO, with the aim of adding more Saudi sites to the World Heritage List.
