Makkah, 21 Rajab 1447 AH (10 January 2026)

The National and Consumer Industries Exhibition, held at the headquarters of the Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is an integrated platform for showcasing the development, quality and diversity of national products, supporting local manufacturers, empowering small and medium enterprises and strengthening the direct link between producer and consumer, in line with national economic development goals.

Handicrafts lead the national industries on show as one of the foremost sources of Saudi cultural identity, carrying a deep-rooted authenticity and a civilisational heritage passed down through generations, expressed through aesthetic techniques that reveal the creativity and mastery of Saudi artisans and their relationship with the local environment and the materials of daily life.

Jewellery making is one of the most prominent crafts linked to adornment and beauty, with forms and names that vary by region of manufacture in a clear expression of the richness of Saudi heritage. The central regions are known for gold necklaces set with turquoise, while the east is famed for the "Kaff" ornament worn on the wrist. Rings and bracelets are found across the regions, along with the "Hama", a circular ornament worn on the crown of the head.

Earrings go by names including "Taraji", "Khursan", "Shunuf" and "Khamakhim", alongside neck ornaments such as the "Murtahish" and foot ornaments known as "Barabish", which resemble anklets and are hollow with beads inside that make a distinctive sound with movement, combining beauty with symbolic function.

Gold and silver jewellery is distinguished by fine decoration based on engraving, inlay and embroidery, with elements inspired by each region's local environment. The northern regions are known for special techniques, most notably granulation, filigree and setting with coral and pearls, reflecting the richness of Saudi craft and the diversity of its artistic schools.

The presence of jewellery making at the exhibition underlines the growing role of handicrafts in raising the value of national products and turning heritage into a sustainable economic product that supports artisans, preserves cultural identity and builds a Saudi brand able to compete in local and global markets.
