About Makkah

Makkah is the capital of Makkah Region and the Holy Capital of Islam, home to the Grand Mosque and the Kaaba, visited by millions of pilgrims each year; the region has more than 8 million residents according to the 2022 census and the city about 2.4 million. Ringed by mountains including Jabal al-Nour and the Cave of Hira, its central area is dominated by the Clock Towers with their museums and hotels, alongside Hira Cultural District, the Exhibition of the Two Holy Mosques Architecture and the Makkah Museum at Al-Zahir Palace. Its events calendar turns with the seasons: Markaz Al-Balad Al-Amin, Fawanees Makkah and Hira Nights in Ramadan, "Makkah Celebrates" at Eid, the Hajj Media Forum and the Nusuk Hajj Gifts Exhibition before the Hajj, the Scientific Forum for Hajj Research in late summer, and the Makkah Halal Forum, Buildex and the Entrepreneurship Forum at the Makkah Chamber exhibitions centre.
