Abha, 28 Sha'ban 1447 AH (16 February 2026)

The Aseer region is seeing varied social, sporting and cultural activity as the holy month of Ramadan approaches, in a scene that strengthens community cohesion and spreads a spirit of participation and volunteering through programs and events that meet the aspirations of residents and visitors.

Welcoming Ramadan in Aseer carries a historical dimension marked by a collective spirit and social solidarity, when families cooperated to prepare homes, store food and ready mosques to receive worshippers for the Taraweeh and Qiyam prayers.

This year HRH Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Aseer, launched the fourth edition of the "Ajaweed" initiative, which aims to stimulate volunteering and community initiatives across the region's governorates through six tracks: tourism destinations, investment, community development, culture and heritage, environmental sustainability and urban design.

The initiative is a competitive platform for charitable and social projects throughout Ramadan, encouraging young people and families to take an active part in serving the community and strengthening the values of solidarity and unity.

Among the Ramadan events are sports tournaments such as the "Al Muttahid Sports Tournament" in Muhayil Aseer Governorate and the Aseer Municipality tournament in Abha, along with local sporting events bringing young people together in football and team games, promoting fitness and social connection.

Ahead of the holy month, Aseer's traditional markets come alive as vibrant social centers offering local food and traditional Ramadan dishes and providing commercial opportunities for productive families and artisans, extending the historical customs that saw residents gather to strengthen social bonds.

The Aseer Region Municipality announced the development of the region's best-known Ramadan market with a heritage and spiritual character through the "Luqya" event at Al Mashhad Park in Abha, letting productive families and small investors present their products in a festive atmosphere.

The region also hosts heritage evenings in its historic villages, workshops and lectures on the history and heritage of the Kingdom's south, and literary sessions on Ramadan values, enriching the cultural experience and introducing visitors to Aseer's civilizational identity.

These activities extend the region's old Ramadan traditions, which included preparing mosques, hanging lanterns and strengthening the spirit of solidarity and hospitality, in a picture balancing authenticity and renewal.

Aseer's efforts this year affirm its commitment to a complete Ramadan experience combining social, sporting and cultural events while preserving the historical heritage and authentic customs passed down through generations.
