Haramain High Speed Railway Runs More Than 5,300 Trips and Offers 2.21 Million Seats to Serve Pilgrims
Madinah, May 2026
The Haramain High Speed Railway station in Madinah is seeing a rising operational peak as the Guests of God arrive in Madinah and other groups depart for Makkah to perform the Hajj rituals, with a high density of daily arriving and departing trips to accommodate the growing number of pilgrims during the Hajj season of 1447 AH.
Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) confirmed the readiness of the Haramain High Speed Railway to implement its operational plan for the Hajj season, ensuring smooth travel between cities and main stations and serving the Guests of God with high efficiency.
More Than 5,300 Trips During the Hajj Season
Khalid bin Yousef Al Farhan, official spokesperson for SAR, said the Haramain High Speed Railway's operational plan for the Hajj season includes running more than 5,300 trips and providing more than 2.21 million seats to carry pilgrims between Makkah and Madinah.
The plan also connects the main stations in Jeddah, King Abdulaziz International Airport and King Abdullah Economic City, within a modern transport network that supports easy travel and fast access between destinations.
35 Trains at Speeds of Up to 300 km/h
Al Farhan said the Haramain High Speed Railway's operating fleet comprises 35 trains with a capacity of 417 seats each. The train is among the fastest in the world, with an operating speed of up to 300 kilometers per hour.
He noted that the train cuts the journey between Makkah and Madinah to around two hours and 15 minutes, improving the efficiency of travel between the two holy cities during the Hajj season.
Frequent Trips to Meet High Demand
He added that the number of daily trips will reach more than 140 at peak times, with an arrival or departure at Madinah station every 25 to 30 minutes.
This operational density aims to meet the high demand for transport during the season and ensure the smooth movement of pilgrims between stations with ease and comfort.
An Advanced Transport System for the Guests of God
The Haramain High Speed Railway is one of the Kingdom's most prominent modern transport projects, supporting the Hajj and Umrah system with a fast, safe and highly efficient means of travel between the holy cities.
The project also reflects the Kingdom's continued efforts to develop infrastructure and logistics services for pilgrims, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 goals of elevating the experience of the Guests of God.
