King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah is hosting the third International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO 2026) from 2 to 9 August 2026, with around 120 students and scientific specialists from 19 countries, jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) and the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy.

The Kingdom is hosting the global scientific event following royal approval, in a step that reflects its continued support for talent and innovation and its growing presence on the international stage as a host of specialized scientific competitions, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 goals of developing human capital and supporting advanced science.

The official opening ceremony is scheduled for 3 August 2026 under the patronage of the Deputy Governor of Makkah Region, bringing together gifted students and experts to exchange knowledge and expertise in physics, nuclear science and its peaceful applications.

Recognized by the International Atomic Energy Agency in 2024, the International Nuclear Science Olympiad aims to encourage young people to specialize in peaceful nuclear science and highlight its role in medicine, agriculture, industry and sustainable development, while promoting a culture of safe and responsible use of nuclear technology and motivating participants to develop scientific solutions and innovations that serve their communities.

The hosting builds on the Kingdom's record in organizing international science olympiads, after its successful hosting of the International Chemistry Olympiad 2024 and the Asian Physics Olympiad 2025, and on the achievements of Saudi students in the two previous editions of the nuclear science olympiad, where they won five international awards including one silver and three bronze medals.

The event is an important scientific platform for exchanging expertise among students, researchers and specialists, building bridges of scientific cooperation, and preparing a generation capable of contributing to the future of peaceful nuclear science and technology.
