The seventh edition of the Water Research Community opens today, Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) in Riyadh.

Organized by the Saudi Water Authority, represented by the Water Technologies Innovation Institute & Research Advancement (WTIIRA), in collaboration with KACST, the event brings together researchers, experts, and water-sector specialists from around the world.

The initiative aims to strengthen connections between scientific expertise and the practical needs of the water sector, helping transform research, knowledge, and water innovations into real-world solutions that improve resource sustainability and efficiency.

Targeting an Annual Economic Impact of SAR 3 Billion

The initiative’s research outcomes are expected to generate an annual economic impact of up to SAR 3 billion in the coming years.

Its targets include converting approximately 15% of submitted proposals into applied projects, publishing more than 250 scientific papers, registering 20 high-value patents, and funding more than 15 projects.

The initiative also aims to support the establishment of Saudi startups with a combined estimated market value exceeding SAR 300 million in the coming years.

Four Main Research and Innovation Tracks

The seventh edition focuses on four key areas: materials science, technology integration, digital intelligence, and business models.

With this edition, cumulative participation across the initiative is expected to exceed 1,900 researchers and experts, while research proposals are projected to surpass 470 and signed agreements to reach 46.

More Than 60 Universities and Academic Institutions

The event hosts experts and representatives from more than 60 local and international universities and academic institutions, including King Abdulaziz University, University of Tabuk, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, King Saud University, and the University of Manchester.
