Saudi Arabia Hosts 10th Arab Geographic Names Forum to Strengthen Regional Cooperation
Under the patronage of HRH Prince Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Defense and Chairman of the Board of the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information, Saudi Arabia is hosting the 10th Arab Geographic Names Forum from November 10 to 12, 2024, in Jeddah. Held under the theme "Strengthening Relations and Ties Between Arab Countries on Geographic Names," the forum sees broad participation from 22 Arab countries, alongside international organizations and experts and specialists in the field.
The forum aims to achieve integration and exchange expertise among specialists in geographic names, support Arab cultural identity, and strengthen cooperation with regional and international organizations. It includes a series of initiatives and programs showcasing Arab countries' activities in the field, exploring the meanings of place names and how geospatial technologies and artificial intelligence can be used to develop unified digital dictionaries according to global standards.
In related remarks, Dr. Eng. Mohammed bin Yahya Al-Sayel, President of the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information and Chairman of the National Committee for Geographic Names, affirmed that Prince Khalid bin Salman's patronage of the event underscores the strong support the leadership provides to strengthen the Kingdom's standing in survey and geospatial information fields, particularly given its leading role within the UN Group of Experts on Geographical Names.
