The Research, Development and Innovation Authority, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, is organizing "Sustainability Innovation Week" under the theme "Innovation for a Sustainable Future," running December 9-11, 2024, in Riyadh, coinciding with the Kingdom's hosting of the sixteenth session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP16).

The event is a major international gathering that brings together scientists, experts and researchers working on innovative solutions to sustainability challenges in support of global environmental priorities. Through the event, the Authority aims to highlight the Kingdom's role in tackling pressing environmental challenges, developing sustainable solutions for desalinated water production, and strengthening cross-sector integration to achieve water and food sustainability.

The event focuses on two main pillars, water security and food security, spotlighting sustainable water resource management solutions and ensuring the sustainability of agriculture and food supply chains in support of long-term food security. It includes workshops and panel discussions aimed at exchanging ideas and modern technologies, as well as showcasing successful international experiences in the field.

Sustainability Innovation Week coincides with the UNCCD COP16 conference hosted by the Kingdom, which brings together member states and environmental organizations to discuss efforts to combat desertification and land degradation, underscoring Saudi Arabia's commitment to international cooperation on environmental protection and achieving a sustainable balance between people and nature.
