Jubail hosts sixth International Conference on Learning Cities: advancing sustainable education and climate action

Under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, opens the sixth International Conference on Learning Cities (ICLC6) tomorrow in Jubail Industrial City. The conference runs from December 2 to 5, organized by the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities in cooperation with the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu.

Goals and key themes
Held under the theme "Learning Cities at the Forefront of Climate Action," the conference aims to highlight education's pivotal role in achieving sustainable development goals, particularly in addressing climate change. It draws representatives from 356 cities in 79 countries to exchange expertise and showcase best practices in education and sustainable development.

The program includes specialized sessions and workshops focused on promoting lifelong learning and developing initiatives that balance economic progress with environmental protection.

Jubail: a global model for sustainable development
Jubail Industrial City has become a leading model for advancing education and sustainable development, earning international praise for successfully integrating learning initiatives with environmental protection strategies. The city recently launched its Green Schools project to instill environmental awareness among students and encourage eco-friendly practices such as recycling and planting green spaces.

Isabell Kempf, Director of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning, expressed her appreciation for the Kingdom hosting this global event, praising Jubail's readiness to welcome international delegations. She stressed the importance of international cooperation in confronting environmental challenges, noting that learning cities hold significant potential to drive positive change through sustainable education.

Dr. Fadi bin Saud Al-Fayyad, General Supervisor of the conference committees, said hosting the event in Jubail reflects the city's leadership in developing innovative solutions that combine education and sustainability. Abdulrahman Al-Ghamdi, Jubail Industrial City's coordinator with the UNESCO network, added that the conference presents an opportunity to exchange expertise and strengthen international partnerships.
