AlUla, January 31, 2025 — The AlUla Arts Festival is celebrating the art of Arabic calligraphy in a distinctive creative experience, in partnership with the Khawla Art and Culture Foundation, with the events spotlighting the authenticity and aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy through a contemporary artistic lens.

The festival's calligraphy program comprises three main sections that reflect the evolution of Arabic calligraphy and highlight its role as a bridge linking heritage and modernity:

Calligraphy Creations at AlUla Arts Festival

"Calligraphy in Tantora" is a distinctive installation designed by Sheikha Khawla bint Ahmed Khalifa Al Suwaidi, inspired by her notable work "Life," reflecting the artistic and aesthetic depth of Arabic calligraphy with a contemporary touch.

"The Calligraphy Gallery" is a solo exhibition by artist Ghaleb Hawila, alongside group works by artists including Wissam Shawkat, Abdullah Akkar and Ibrahim Zaki, showcasing innovative techniques in Arabic calligraphy.

"House of Calligraphy" offers an experience blending design and everyday arts, through luxurious abayas, furniture decorated with Arabic calligraphy, and jewelry designed in a refined artistic style, in a collaboration between Sandra Habib, Heba and Azza Al Qassimi.

The festival also includes a historic home converted into a pop-up store reflecting AlUla's distinctive cultural character, offering visitors a complete artistic journey blending history and creativity.

The festival aims to showcase the aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy through innovative means, reinforcing AlUla's role as a creative hub that brings together art, culture and historical identity.
