Leather Crafts in Najran: A Cultural Heritage Reflecting the Region's Authenticity
Najran, 28 Ramadan 1446 AH (28 March 2025)
Leather crafts are an authentic part of Najran's heritage, preserved and passed down by local families from generation to generation because of their importance in storing food, transporting goods and decorating homes.
During the "Basta Khair" event, organized by the Najran Region Municipality as part of the Year of Handicrafts, the corners dedicated to leather crafts drew large crowds, as craftsmen displayed 12 corners of traditional crafts around the interactive fountain on King Saud Road.
Najran's Most Notable Leather Products
Al-Zamalah: a multi-size leather container used to store tools.
Al-Usm: a small pouch for storing flour, sugar and salt.
Al-Qutf: a pouch smaller than the usm, used specifically for storing coffee.
Al-Mishrab: a leather pouch used to cool water for drinking.
Al-Mizab: a leather cradle used to carry infants and protect them from cold and sun.
These items showcase the craftsmen's creativity in using leather to make practical tools carrying cultural and heritage symbols that reflect the region's history and long-standing traditions.
