The Journey of Writing and Calligraphy Exhibition Runs in Riyadh Until September 2
The Journey of Writing and Calligraphy exhibition continues in Riyadh until September 2. It is the second exhibition of its kind and explores the spiritual dimension of Arabic calligraphy in Islamic civilization, focusing on the aesthetic and functional aspects of Arabic calligraphy as a core element of Arab cultural identity.
Exhibition Design
The exhibition was designed by Jean-Paul Boulanger, Mirjo Renesio and Tang Tu. It brings together 34 calligraphers from 11 countries, including 12 Saudi calligraphers, along with 19 contemporary artists and designers from 12 countries, including 4 Saudi artists. On display is a collection of Islamic artworks and rare manuscripts from the holdings of the Ministry of Culture, the Arab World Institute museum in Paris and Tunisia's National Heritage Institute, as well as private collections.
The works are divided into four main sections: Light, Letter, Space and Poetry. The exhibition highlights the spiritual power of calligraphers and artists and its relationship to their techniques and practices, as well as the emotion Arabic calligraphy stirs in readers and viewers.
The first edition of the exhibition was held in 2021 at the National Museum in Riyadh. It traced the roots and historical development of Arabic calligraphy, displayed works by Saudi and international calligraphers, artists and designers, and focused on the artistic relationship between Arabic calligraphy and artificial intelligence, underscoring the enduring vitality of Arabic calligraphy and its continuing journey into the future of art.
