In a move that reflects the Kingdom's leadership in supporting talent and scientific innovation, the 25th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) opens next Sunday, May 4, 2025, in Dhahran, with the participation of 240 students from 30 Asian countries. The Kingdom is hosting this prestigious international event through a joint organization involving the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, with strategic sponsorship from Saudi Aramco.

The hosting cements the Kingdom's standing as a global destination for scientific excellence, as it marks the second international olympiad the country has hosted, following the International Chemistry Olympiad 2024 held successfully in Riyadh to wide international acclaim. The Asian Physics Olympiad is one of the leading international scientific competitions for gifted secondary-school students in physics, and includes two main exams, theoretical and practical, each lasting five hours, under the close supervision of the International Olympiad Council.

The olympiad's program includes a rich schedule of educational and recreational visits to promote cultural exchange and introduce participants to the Kingdom's civilizational heritage, enhancing the educational and social experience for participants. The Kingdom has taken part in the olympiad since 2012 and has achieved impressive results, winning 16 medals and awards, out of more than 860 prizes Saudi students have won at international olympiads.

The participating Saudi team is selected through multi-stage testing during intensive scientific camps, part of a strategic partnership between Mawhiba and the Ministry of Education that seeks to build a generation capable of representing the Kingdom globally in fields of scientific excellence and innovation.
