Sarah Al-Harbali's Sound-Wave Artwork Shines at Ministry of Culture Calligraphy Exhibition
The "Paths of the Spirit" exhibition is being held at Irqah Hospital in Riyadh as part of the Ministry of Culture's program celebrating Arabic calligraphy. The exhibition stands out for the diversity of expression among the participating calligraphers and artists and is divided into four main sections, Light, Letter, Space and Poetry, which explore the little-known relationship between Arabic calligraphy and contemporary art.
The exhibition features 34 calligraphers from 11 nationalities, including Syrian artist Sarah Al-Harbali, whose work stands out in the "Space" section. It depicts a spectral revelation chart of Surah Al-Alaq, representing the sound waves of the renowned Quran reciter Abdul Basit Abdul Samad. Made of steel and gold and measuring 120 cm in diameter, the piece is part of a series titled "Spectral Revelation Chart," for which Al-Harbali won the Grand Prize for Emerging Artists at World Art Dubai in 2021.
The exhibition focuses on reviving Arabic calligraphy as a spiritual art form that reflects the characteristics of Arab culture and civilization, and includes a range of works such as murals, lighting pieces and jewelry. It runs until September 2 and will then move to Madinah, its next stop, from October 15 to December 23.
