In an atmosphere blending maritime tradition with scientific knowledge, the second edition of the "Bahhar" festival continues in Yanbu governorate, having opened last Tuesday to strong turnout from visitors, tourists and residents, in a rich cultural, heritage and tourism event that highlights the local community's deep connection with the Red Sea and its heritage.

This year's festival stands out for its performances of folk sea chants that tell the story of the sea through the melodies of Yanbu's fishermen, reviving memories of diving and livelihood amid enthusiastic audience engagement. Veteran fishermen are taking part, sharing decades of experience from the depths of the sea and recounting true stories of traditional fishing trips and the customs of Saudi Arabia's coastal communities.

The festival site on Yanbu's corniche features a main tent hosting artistic and heritage performances, alongside a children's art studio and an open-air theater for cultural shows, a dedicated pavilion for craftsmen displaying maritime tools and handicrafts, and a corner highlighting the Red Sea's biodiversity through scientific exhibits.

On the educational side, workshops and scientific sessions are being led by a group of experts and specialists in fish farming, fisheries management and marine-environment conservation, alongside a look at funding opportunities for fishermen and young people interested in investing in the sector — supporting the sustainable development of fisheries and boosting visitors' environmental awareness.

"Bahhar 2" is organized by the Madinah branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, in cooperation with the Yanbu Fishermen's Cooperative Society, to spotlight maritime culture and promote environmental and economic awareness of the importance of preserving and developing marine resources.
