Madinah | 4 August 2025. As part of the cultural program accompanying Madinah Book Fair 2025, the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission organized a notable workshop titled "Distinguishing Between Information and Knowledge in a Digital World," presented by writer and reading-empowerment expert Reem Al-Jawfi, drawing a strong turnout of people interested in digital education, students and content creators.

During the workshop, Al-Jawfi explained that the distinction between "information" and "knowledge" is pivotal in an era of information overload, noting that information is the raw material on which knowledge is built, while knowledge is a mature mental process that relies on reflecting on, analyzing and linking information to context, personal awareness and experience.

She affirmed that today's challenge lies not in a lack of information but in how to distinguish the valuable from the trivial and understand the contexts in which it is produced, stressing that the pace of digital change and the spread of social platforms have heightened the risk of receiving misleading information without scrutiny or verification.

Al-Jawfi called for strengthening critical-thinking and conscious-reading skills across different segments of society, as vital tools for turning abstract information into real knowledge that can be invested in developing the self, society and the national knowledge economy.

The workshop also addressed a number of experiences and initiatives aimed at empowering individuals to deal intelligently with data and digital content, and training them to evaluate sources and engage ethically with information, in line with Saudi Vision 2030's goals of building an empowered knowledge society.

The workshop concluded with lively audience engagement and recommendations to integrate these concepts into educational curricula and develop training programs that raise digital awareness among new generations amid current technological shifts.
