AlUla to Host Stargazing Seminar as Part of "Journey Through the Stars" Series
The Royal Commission for AlUla is preparing to launch a new educational event in its "Journey Through the Stars" series, organized in cooperation with King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and the AlUla Manara team. The event will take place on the evening of Sunday, October 12, 2025, at the Tourism Hall in the Education Building, starting at 5 p.m.
The seminar will be presented by Dr. Thamer bin Yousef Al-Rifai, a specialist in physics and astronomy, who will cover the basics of astronomy, the components of the universe, and methods for exploring stars and planets, presented in accessible language suitable for all age groups.
The seminar is part of a series of educational programs aimed at raising awareness of astronomy and space science and connecting scientific concepts to AlUla's unique natural environment. The initiative is part of the Royal Commission's ongoing effort to establish AlUla as a global destination for astro-tourism and space science research.
AlUla is considered one of the world's foremost regions for its clear, light-pollution-free skies, making it an ideal location for observing stars and astronomical phenomena. The Royal Commission has secured Dark Sky certification for the "AlUla Manara" site and the Gharameel Reserve, making them the first certified Dark Sky sites in the Kingdom and the wider Gulf region — an achievement that reflects AlUla's commitment to protecting its natural environment and building astronomical knowledge among visitors and the local community.
The AlUla Manara project is also one of the region's most notable initiatives, operating as an advanced research and astronomical center that opens new horizons for scientific discovery and helps spark a passion for science among younger generations.
