Riyadh, 7 October 2025 (15 Rabi’ al-Thani 1447H) – King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language has concluded its Fourth International Annual Conference, held under the theme "Global Lexicography: Experiences, Efforts and Prospects." The two-day event took place at the Fairmont Hotel in Riyadh with the participation of a select group of international experts and researchers, numbering more than 50 specialists representing 30 countries from around the world.

The conference forms part of the Academy’s continuing efforts to strengthen the global standing of the Arabic language and develop the lexicography industry through the integration of knowledge and technology, in support of the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to establish Arabic as a language of science, culture and creativity.

Academy Secretary-General Prof. Abdullah bin Saleh Al-Washmi said the conference reflects the strong support the Arabic language continues to receive from the Kingdom’s leadership, noting that this backing has enabled the Academy to launch a range of specialized projects and programs that serve Arabic both locally and globally. Al-Washmi also praised the patronage and support of His Royal Highness Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Culture, for the conference and his continued follow-up on the Academy’s activities and initiatives.

Across its ten sessions, the conference featured in-depth academic discussions on key issues related to dictionaries and artificial intelligence, trends in language computing, and ways to develop cooperation among international language institutions. The sessions brought together representatives from Saudi ministries, Arab language academies and international linguistic institutions, alongside a group of specialized academics and researchers.

During the conference, three strategic memorandums of understanding were signed between King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language and the following:

  • King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah), in the field of preserving historical materials
  • The Education and Training Evaluation Commission, on developing Arabic language tests
  • Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities, to strengthen academic and research cooperation and build joint technical initiatives

The conference also featured more than 35 academic papers examining the latest trends in building specialized dictionaries and the use of technology and artificial intelligence in linguistic analysis and lexicographic computing, alongside a review of Arab and international experiences in developing the language industry.

At the close of the event, the Academy affirmed that this annual international conference embodies its mission of building a global scholarly reference for the Arabic language and serves as a platform for exchanging expertise and coordinating research efforts, noting that it continues to work across four main tracks:

  1. Language planning and policy
  2. Language computing
  3. Educational programs
  4. Cultural programs

Through these tracks, the Academy contributes to strengthening the Arabic language’s global presence, supporting its status as a language of scientific and cultural communication, and reinforcing it as a fundamental pillar of national and civilizational identity.
