The Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts in Abha yesterday opened a visual art exhibition titled "A Shadow That Does Not Follow Its Owner", presenting a contemporary visual experience that reworks traditional elements through a modern lens, giving the works a striking artistic presence and opening new avenues for reflection on the local visual language.

Over the seven-day exhibition, artist Amal Shablan presents a collection of works that reflect her artistic journey and her ability to fuse aesthetic sensibility with symbolic expression through visual compositions rooted in the local environment and recast in a contemporary style.

A shopping centre in Abha hosts the exhibition, as part of the society's drive to widen access to the visual arts and strengthen their presence in public spaces, connecting art with everyday audiences and creating broader opportunities to engage with artworks.

"A Shadow That Does Not Follow Its Owner" is an artistic attempt to read the relationship between people and their surroundings by summoning visual symbols drawn from the local environment and re-presenting them in modern forms that express emotional and intellectual transformation and raise questions about identity, memory and belonging.

The exhibition forms part of the society's efforts to support young artists and open spaces for aesthetic dialogue between artists and the public, cultivating artistic taste and energising the visual arts scene in Asir in line with Vision 2030's support for culture and the arts.
