Tuwaiq Sculpture 2026 Closes in Riyadh with 25 Artworks Completed Under the Riyadh Art Program
Riyadh, 19 Ramadan 1447 AH (8 March 2026)
The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has concluded the seventh edition of the Tuwaiq Sculpture symposium 2026, held from 10 January to 8 March 2026, amid wide public attendance and notable interest from every segment of the community.
Art in Public Space
The symposium took place on Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Road (Tahlia) in Riyadh, where the site became an open art space that let the public follow the stages of live sculpting and interact directly with the artists, an experience reflecting the program's drive to root art in public space and strengthen its presence in daily life.
25 New Sculptures
This edition saw the completion of 25 sculptures during the live sculpting phase from 10 January to 5 February 2026, with leading local and international artists using local stone and recycled metals in their work, in line with the principles of sustainability and highlighting the transformation of raw materials into finished artworks within the urban scene.
A Cultural and Training Program
The symposium included an integrated community program of specialized panel discussions, training workshops and advanced courses, along with daily guided tours, widening visitors' artistic knowledge, strengthening cultural exchange and offering hands-on learning opportunities for emerging talent alongside international sculptors.
The public was also able to view the works in the accompanying exhibition, which ran until 8 March 2026, where the sculptures were displayed in one location after the live sculpting phase before being installed at a number of prominent public sites in Riyadh as part of a plan to integrate contemporary art into the city's urban fabric.
International Curation
The seventh edition was curated by Lulwah Al Homoud, Sarah Staton and Ruth Bliss Luxembourg, whose combined expertise in public art, spatial practice and contemporary visual culture guided the works toward engagement with material and place and the exploration of the present and the future.
Tuwaiq Sculpture is part of Riyadh Art, one of the public art projects launched by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City to strengthen the creative economy, energize the cultural scene and establish Riyadh as a global city of the arts, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
