Balady+ Updates 11,800 Sites and Landmarks in Makkah and the Holy Sites to Enhance the Pilgrim Experience for Hajj 1447 AH
The Balady+ platform has announced a wide package of digital and geospatial updates in Makkah and the holy sites in preparation for the Hajj season of 1447 AH, covering more than 11,800 sites and landmarks, with the aim of easing the movement of the Guests of God, raising the efficiency of crowd management and improving access to vital services during the season, in cooperation with the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites.
The step is part of digital transformation and smart city development efforts, using geospatial data, modern technology and artificial intelligence to support the pilgrim experience at one of the largest human gatherings in the world.
Digital Maps and Transport Routes
The updates included verifying geospatial data and refreshing vital sites and landmarks within Makkah and the holy sites, improving the experience of moving around and reaching different destinations more easily.
Balady+ also developed its digital map services by updating shuttle transport routes totaling more than 990 kilometers, with real-time data on transport times and schedules, helping pilgrims plan their journeys and reach their destinations quickly and efficiently.
A 3D Experience of the Holy Sites
The platform launched an interactive three-dimensional experience covering the entrances and exits of the Grand Mosque, pedestrian walkways and the Jamarat Bridge, helping pilgrims recognize locations and routes before reaching them and easing movement during the rituals.
These digital services help reduce congestion and improve movement in high-density areas, raising the efficiency of crowd management during the Hajj season.
Updated Facilities and Vital Services
The work included reviewing and updating the locations of hospitals, health centers, Red Crescent stations and public facilities, and linking pilgrim camps to the data of approved Hajj operators so they can be reached by the fastest available routes.
The digital maps also provide instant updates on road conditions and traffic diversions, linked to the control rooms of partner bodies to support rapid response and smooth movement across sites.
Municipal Services and Advanced Digital Oversight
On the municipal side, the platform enabled the electronic issuance of seasonal permits for temporary outlets, pilgrim housing applications and health certificates, and strengthened field oversight through the "Mumtathil" and "Adasat Balady" platforms in partnership with the Holy Capital Municipality.
Yasser Al Obaidan, CEO of the Balady platform, said the platform works to provide accurate, real-time geospatial data that lets the Guests of God reach services and move with high efficiency, within an integrated system that brings the partner bodies together to serve pilgrims.
