Mina, 8 Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH

Pilgrims began arriving in Mina on the morning of 8 Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH to spend the Day of Tarwiyah, in a solemn scene of faith filled with the sounds of talbiyah and takbir, following the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and preparing for the standing at Arafat, the greatest pillar of Hajj.

The roads and facilities of the holy sites saw organized and highly smooth movement as pilgrims made their way to Mina, within an integrated system of security, health, transport and logistics services the Kingdom has deployed to serve the Guests of God.

The Day of Tarwiyah, a Station of Faith Before Arafat

Spending the night in Mina on the Day of Tarwiyah is a confirmed Sunnah for pilgrims performing Ifrad and Qiran, while pilgrims performing Tamattu enter ihram from their places of residence before heading to Mina, where they spend the day and night until sunrise on 9 Dhu al-Hijjah before setting out for the plain of Arafat for the great standing.

After the standing at Arafat and the night in Muzdalifah, pilgrims return to Mina for the days of Tashreeq and the stoning of the Jamarat, in a spiritual journey that embodies obedience and the following of the Prophet's tradition.

Mina, the Seasonal City of Hajj

Mina lies between Makkah and Muzdalifah, about seven kilometers northeast of the Grand Mosque. It is part of the boundaries of the Holy Sanctuary of Makkah and is inhabited only during the Hajj season.

Mountains surround the site to the north and south. It is bounded on the Makkah side by Jamrat Al Aqabah, while Wadi Muhassir lies on the opposite side toward Muzdalifah.

Enduring Historical and Islamic Landmarks

Mina holds a number of prominent Islamic and historical sites, most notably the Jamarat facility where pilgrims perform the stoning ritual, and Al Khaif Mosque, where the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and a number of prophets before him prayed, one of the most important historical mosques at the holy sites.

Mina is also home to Al Bay'ah Mosque, which commemorates the first and second pledges of Al Aqabah, a pivotal moment in the history of the Islamic call and the beginning of the founding of the Islamic state in Madinah.

An Integrated System for the Guests of God

Government and service bodies continue to implement their operational plans in Mina, providing security, medical, emergency and supply services, along with modern transport networks and guidance and awareness centers, ensuring the rituals are performed with ease.

These efforts are part of an integrated system the Kingdom has deployed to serve pilgrims, reflecting its continued care for the Two Holy Mosques and the holy sites and embodying the Saudi Vision 2030 goals of elevating services for the Guests of God and enriching their spiritual experience.
