Saudi Arabia continues to strengthen its global position in data and artificial intelligence, advancing an integrated approach that combines technological innovation, national talent development, and responsible AI governance in support of the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.

As 2026 is designated the “Year of Artificial Intelligence,” national efforts led by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) are accelerating to expand the adoption of advanced technologies across multiple sectors while ensuring their responsible and ethical use.

The Kingdom’s approach focuses on using AI to support economic growth, improve quality of life, enhance government and private-sector efficiency, and build a knowledge-based economy capable of competing globally.

Saudi Arabia has also reaffirmed its commitment to the responsible use of artificial intelligence during its participation in the high-level week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The Kingdom continues to support international efforts, including those led by UNESCO, to promote ethical AI and advance the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Saudi Arabia Ranks 13th Globally in Competitiveness

In 2026, Saudi Arabia ranked 13th globally among 70 countries in the IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook and placed third among G20 countries, reflecting continued progress in digital transformation and technological development.

The Kingdom also ranked fourth globally in corporate AI adoption, supported by initiatives launched by SDAIA, including the Rowad Package and incentive labels designed to encourage companies to adopt ethical AI practices.

Saudi Arabia also secured fourth place globally in societal access to artificial intelligence, supported by national programs aimed at expanding digital knowledge and developing AI skills across society.

1.2 Million Saudis Trained in Artificial Intelligence

Human-capital development remains a central part of Saudi Arabia’s AI strategy. The SAMAI initiative has contributed to training approximately 1.2 million Saudis in artificial intelligence, alongside programs offered through the SDAIA Academy and other national education and training initiatives.

These efforts aim to equip students, researchers, professionals, and innovators with advanced skills needed to participate in the rapidly evolving digital economy and strengthen the Kingdom’s pool of specialized national talent.

SDAIA also plays a central role in developing AI policies, regulatory frameworks, infrastructure, and digital capabilities, enabling government entities and private-sector organizations to make greater use of data and AI solutions.

Responsible and Ethical AI Development

Alongside technological advancement, Saudi Arabia is placing increased emphasis on AI governance and ethics, focusing on principles such as transparency, fairness, privacy protection, and reducing risks associated with algorithms and automated systems.

The Kingdom is also expanding cooperation with international organizations, academic institutions, and technology stakeholders to exchange expertise and contribute to global discussions on the responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence.

Through this approach, Saudi Arabia aims to balance technological innovation with responsible governance while using AI to support sustainable development, economic competitiveness, and improved quality of life.
