Arabic Academy opens fifth annual conference in Riyadh
The King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language opened its fifth annual international conference in Riyadh on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Titled “Arabic Language and Culture: Intersections and Dimensions”, the event runs through October 5. The gathering brings together researchers and specialists from Saudi Arabia and abroad to examine the relationship between Arabic and culture.
Six themes connect language with identity, intercultural exchange, creative practice, digital culture, cultural policy and future prospects. The programme includes the influence of social platforms and artificial intelligence on Arabic content and cultural identity.
From heritage to digital content
According to the official conference website, discussions cover Arabic’s relationship with heritage and collective memory, its role in translation and intercultural dialogue, and its presence in literature, cinema, art and media. Other topics link language planning with cultural policy and legislation, alongside opportunities in the knowledge economy.
Today’s opening follows the earlier submission and review stages for abstracts and research papers. The academy organises the annual conference around a different specialist theme in Arabic language studies each year.
