WIPO Appoints Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property as International Searching and Examining Authority
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has announced the appointment of the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) as an International Searching and Preliminary Examining Authority under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT/ISA/IPEA). The decision was approved unanimously by all 193 member states of the organization, making SAIP the second international searching and examining office to support the Arabic language.
The appointment allows international patent applicants in member states to choose SAIP as one of WIPO's accredited international searching authorities to issue search reports on international patent applications.

To achieve this, the authority had previously drawn up the necessary strategic plans and set the required targets.
It also planned the recruitment and training of examiners to equip them with the skills needed to carry out search and examination work, implemented quality standards and developed electronic systems as it prepared to complete the requirements for the appointment.
SAIP also hopes to help strengthen the Patent Cooperation Treaty in the region and worldwide, as the 25th body in the world to serve as an international searching and examining authority.
