In a step aimed at improving mobility and cutting traffic congestion by up to 30%, the "Riyadh Metro" launches today as the largest public transport project in the Middle East, featuring the world's longest driverless train. The project is part of the King Abdulaziz Project for Public Transport, a cornerstone of efforts to upgrade the capital's transport infrastructure.

Three Lines Now Running

The project will begin operations with three of its six planned lines, giving Riyadh residents more efficient and comfortable mobility options, helping reduce reliance on private cars, which in turn is expected to improve quality of life and cut carbon emissions.

'Darb' Platform: A Smart Mobility Experience

Maher Shreh, general manager of the General Department of Smart Cities, announced the launch of the "Darb" app, an integrated digital platform bringing together more than 105 technical systems to support Riyadh's public transport network. The app offers comprehensive services including trip planning, ticket booking, and instant alerts, significantly improving the user experience.

An Ambitious Project for Vision 2030

The Riyadh Metro is part of Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to deliver innovative, sustainable transport solutions that strengthen Riyadh's status as a fully integrated smart city. With the metro's partial launch, public transport in the capital is expected to undergo a major transformation that meets the aspirations of residents and visitors alike.
