Makkah | 16 Dhu al-Qadah 1446 AH corresponding to May 14, 2025 — The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque yesterday raised the lower section of the Kaaba's kiswa (covering) by three meters, as part of intensive preparations to receive pilgrims for this year's 1446 AH Hajj season.

The annual raising process aims to preserve the integrity of the kiswa and prevent damage or friction during the heavy crowds of tawaf, as the Kaaba's courtyard sees extremely high foot traffic during the Hajj season. Specialized technical teams carried out the operation with great precision, following requirements that respect the sanctity of the site and meet safety and professional standards.

The process involved detaching the lower sections of the kiswa, lifting and securing them at a height of three meters, then covering the raised section with a two-meter-wide strip of white cotton cloth on all sides, in addition to returning the lanterns to their places — a scene symbolizing the meticulous organization and integration of services provided to the guests of God.

This procedure is one of the organizational measures that precede the Hajj season each year, reflecting the continuous efforts of the relevant authorities in caring for the Grand Mosque and preparing a spiritual atmosphere for pilgrims to perform their rituals in peace and tranquility, within an integrated system of logistical and organizational services.
