'Anwarat' Initiative Embodies Saudi Hospitality Through Volunteer Efforts Serving More Than Half a Million Pilgrims
Mina, June 4, 2025 (8 Dhu al-Hijjah 1446H) — Saudi Arabia continues to set a leading example of humanitarian hospitality through the "Anwarat" initiative, launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development as part of its efforts to deliver an exceptional experience for pilgrims during Hajj season 1446H, through an integrated system of volunteer work and community services.
The initiative helps reinforce the authentic values of Saudi hospitality by engaging thousands of volunteers from across the Kingdom's regions in serving pilgrims, from the moment they arrive on the holy lands until they depart after performing their rites, in a scene that reflects the authenticity of Saudi society and the solidarity of its people during seasons of goodness.
Anwarat's activities have included multilingual reception and guidance services at air and land entry points and across the Holy Sites; assistance for the elderly and people with disabilities through adapted transport and trained staff; the provision of more than 600,000 meals, the distribution of more than 100,000 pilgrim bags and 15,000 token gifts; and the establishment of a "Hajj Hub" to introduce pilgrims to available services and foster cultural exchange among them.
The initiative's coverage extends across multiple areas, including Makkah and the Holy Sites; Madinah and the Prophet's Mosque; and the entry points of Tabuk, Najran, the Northern Borders and Al-Jouf.
Implementation is overseen by the ministry's Social Development Centres, which organised the volunteer effort within precise organisational frameworks that provide volunteers with an effective working environment enabling them to deliver the best possible standard of service, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to promote a culture of volunteering and raise quality of life.
"Anwarat" embodies a range of values, including compassion and empathy across cultures, community empowerment and national participation, and leadership in service and humanitarian innovation, and is considered one of the leading national initiatives representing the integration between government and civil society in presenting an honourable image of the Kingdom to the world.
