'Baseer': The AI Platform Guiding Crowd Management and Restoring a Sense of Reassurance During Hajj
Mina, 11 Dhu al-Hijjah 1446H (June 7, 2025) — In a scene that combines technology with humanity, the "Baseer" platform emerged during Hajj season 1446H as one of the Kingdom's standout innovations in crowd management and smart service guidance, as the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, deployed advanced algorithms and computer-vision technology to make Hajj a safer, smoother experience, in line with the ambitions of Saudi Vision 2030.
"Baseer" is a smart platform capable of analysing crowd flows in real time through cameras intelligently distributed across the Grand Mosque, the Prophet's Mosque and the Holy Sites, enabling relevant authorities to make proactive decisions that help avoid congestion, prevent overcrowding, and strengthen safety.
The platform has gone beyond being simply a technical tool to become a watchful eye over pilgrims' security, playing an effective role in finding missing persons and guiding their families with record speed, supported by artificial intelligence and facial-recognition capabilities. The platform can also analyse the situation on the ground in real time and direct human and service resources with high precision, boosting the operational efficiency of all sectors working during Hajj.
This technical achievement reflects the Kingdom's firm commitment to humanising technology, turning artificial intelligence from a complex technology into a humanitarian service in the holiest of places. "Baseer" represents an extension of SDAIA's efforts to turn data into smart services that enable government bodies to carry out their tasks with the highest degree of efficiency, embodying a global model for integrating technology with safety and psychological comfort for pilgrims.
