"Al-Siram – Palm Song" Play Opens in Al-Ahsa, Drawing on the Spirit of Heritage and Palm-Tree Memory
In a display of art and culture pulsing with local identity, the Society of Culture and Arts in Al-Ahsa governorate opened performances of the heritage play "Al-Siram – Palm Song" last night, part of the "Setar" program overseen by the Theater and Performing Arts Commission, in a run lasting three days.
Written by well-known playwright Abdulaziz Al-Samaeel, winner of the best-script award at the 1997 Janadriyah Festival, the play tells a story inspired by the authentic environment of Al-Ahsa, exploring social and cultural issues through rich dramatic narrative and characters that express the diversity of the Eastern Province's social fabric.
The performance is accompanied by striking visual staging and a companion art exhibition inspired by the spirit of the script, highlighting the symbolism of the palm tree as an emblem of generosity, resilience and deep roots in Saudi culture, with paintings and photography expressing the bond between the people of Al-Ahsa and their land and heritage.
The play forms part of the Al-Ahsa Society of Culture and Arts' efforts to revive local theater, support cultural and artistic activity, encourage young talent, and present theatrical works that carry a purely Saudi identity — enriching the national cultural scene in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
