Abha, 24 June 2025 (28 Dhu al-Hijjah 1446H). Asir region continues to cement its position as one of Saudi Arabia's leading tourist destinations after ranking fourth nationally by visitor numbers in 2024, drawing around 7.5 million tourists, according to the annual statistical report issued by the Ministry of Tourism.

Asir is preparing to welcome summer 2025 visitors with mild weather that rarely exceeds 20 degrees Celsius and spectacular scenery in the Sarawat mountain peaks, offering a tourism experience that blends environmental, cultural and heritage attractions alongside seasonal events catering to families, young people and leisure seekers.

According to an analytical study released by the Abha Chamber in March 2025, the region has seen accelerating growth across tourism indicators, including visitor numbers, accommodation facilities and tourist spending. By the end of 2024, the number of licensed accommodation facilities reached 288, comprising 44 hotels, 217 furnished apartments, 24 hotel apartments and three chalets, with a combined total of 9,718 hotel rooms.

Domestic tourism spending in Asir reached about SR10.6 billion, representing 9.2% of the Kingdom's total domestic tourism spending, reflecting the region's strong tourist appeal. Most of that spending, about 80%, went to accommodation and food and beverages, while the study found that entertainment is a priority for 46% of visitors.

On international tourism, visitors from Gulf Cooperation Council countries made up 64% of arrivals to Asir, followed by visitors from the Middle East at 23.27%, with annual growth of 199% in that segment, evidence of the region's growing regional profile.

Asir's mild climate and rich cultural heritage set it apart from other destinations. The region is home to more than 200 heritage villages and is known for its "Qatt Asiri" art and folk festivals, all part of Asir's development strategy aimed at making it a year-round sustainable tourism destination, backed by the Ministry of Tourism and the region's development authority.
