Jeddah, 25 June 2025 (29 Dhu al-Hijjah 1446H). The Jeddah Cultural Literary Club, represented by its Visual Arts Forum, organized a specialized Arabic calligraphy workshop titled "Saudi Script." The three-day workshop brought together an elite group of male and female calligraphers under the guidance of Grand Mosque calligrapher Abdulmajeed Al-Ahdal, as part of Ministry of Culture efforts to strengthen the Kingdom's visual identity through the arts.

The workshop spotlighted "Saudi Script," which the Ministry launched in April 2025 as one of the Kingdom's most notable contributions to reviving the spirit of Arabic calligraphy, reflecting aesthetic values drawn from historical manuscripts and Islamic inscriptions while keeping pace with the needs of the digital age and contemporary design.

"Saudi Script" is a flexible model reflecting local culture, part of a series of scripts the Ministry has launched to strengthen the Kingdom's visual identity, including Khat Al-Masmak, Khat Aam Al-Sh'ir, Khat Aam Al-Ibl, Khat Al-Watad and other typographic designs.

Dr. Abdullah Owaiqel Al-Salmi, head of the Jeddah Cultural Literary Club, said the workshop extends Ministry of Culture initiatives seeking to restore appreciation for the art of Arabic calligraphy, pointing to the Kingdom's role in having Arabic calligraphy inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, and to the establishment of the "Dar Al Qalam" international Arabic calligraphy complex in Madinah.

During the workshop, participants produced creative works expressing the aesthetics of Saudi Script, inspired by Arab and Islamic heritage, striking an artistic balance between authenticity and technique. The works are due to be displayed soon in a group exhibition showcasing the workshop's output and celebrating national creativity in Arabic calligraphy.
