King Abdulaziz Sport City in the Al-Sharaie district east of Makkah, about 12 kilometres from the Grand Mosque, opened in 1984 and is run by the Ministry of Sport. Its main stadium, known as Al-Sharaie Stadium, seats about 33,000 spectators and hosts Al-Wehda Club's matches in Saudi competitions; the complex also includes an international indoor hall, a swimming pool, training pitches and athletes' accommodation.
