Jabal al-Nour is one of Makkah's most famous landmarks, about 4 kilometres north-east of the Grand Mosque and 642 metres high. At its summit is the Cave of Hira, where the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to worship and where the first revelation descended. The cave is narrow, holding only four or five people, and draws visitors and pilgrims from around the world.
The ascent trail was upgraded as part of the Hira Cultural District project at the foot of the mountain, which offers the Revelation Exhibition, a visitor centre and organised climbs.
