Al-Ukhdud is the site of ancient Najran on the southern bank of Wadi Najran between the villages of Al-Qabil and Al-Jarbah, covering about 4 square kilometres. Its main element is a fortress dating from 500 BC to the mid-first millennium AD, with Minaean, Sabaean and Kufic inscriptions; new Musnad inscriptions on granite, the largest 230 centimetres long, were uncovered in 2023.
The Heritage Commission built the Al-Ukhdud Visitor Centre on about 300 square metres with forecourts of some 3,400 square metres, opened in 2023, which hosts heritage events at Eid such as the Eid al-Fitr 1446 AH programme, next to the Najran Regional Museum.
