Ayn Zubaydah is a historic aqueduct commissioned by Zubaydah bint Ja'far, wife of the Caliph Harun Al-Rashid, in 174 AH (791) to supply pilgrims with water. It runs from Wadi Nu'man in the Kurr mountains near Taif to Arafat and Makkah over about 30 kilometres and took some ten years to build. It remained a main water source for Makkah for centuries and is today an endowment supervised by the General Authority of Awqaf.
On Founding Day 2025 the Holy Makkah Municipality and Kidana staged interactive shows at the site telling its history.
