Perfumes Tell the Story of Craftswomen's Creativity and the Memory of Place at Jazan Festival 2026
Jazan, 12 Rajab 1447 AH (1 January 2026)
Perfumes in the "Hirfa" (Craft) corner of Jazan Festival 2026 tell a complete story that begins with a plant and ends in small bottles that capture the bond between people and their land, in an interactive cultural experience that embodies the creativity of craftswomen and revives the ancient memory of the region's traditional crafts.
Scents rise from the corner that summon images of the local landscape, where aromatic plants descend from the mountains and plains, are gathered in their natural seasons and pass through careful stages of drying, blending and extraction until they become perfumes and oils that retain their natural properties and carry the imprint of place before their name.
The perfume bottles line up like messages from nature, shaped by skilled hands that know when to harvest each plant, how to treat it and how to draw out its scent, so that the perfume emerges balanced, pure and expressive of the local environment and its cultural identity.
Craftswoman Fatimah bint Mohammed Al-Fifi, who has spent more than 20 years making perfumes, said the craft is a social practice deeply rooted in the life of the region's people, present in hospitality, occasions and gatherings, making scent an invisible cultural element that holds its place in the heart and in collective memory.
The perfume corner has become an interactive space where festival visitors experience the craft up close, learning about aromatic plants, hearing the stages of production explained and testing the subtle differences between scents, in a scene that reveals how the craft unites patience with knowledge and heritage with renewal.
The craftswomen's participation is part of Jazan Festival's drive to re-present traditional crafts as a living, renewable culture and to affirm the role of women in preserving Jazan's craft heritage and expressing it in a contemporary language that reflects local identity and enriches the cultural experience for visitors.
